Purpose of Collective Worship
The daily act of Collective Worship is a distinct time of gathering for the whole school community which is an integral and important part of school life. Within our Collective Worships we promote the Christian values which permeate the ethos of the schools.
The aim of Collective Worship is to provide the opportunity for pupils to:
Reflect on the significant features of human life
To explore our responses to the world in which we live, developing a sense of awe and wonder.
To learn about the Christian beliefs and traditions upon which our society is based.
To enable us to better understand and appreciate the religious beliefs of others
To enable us to develop our own response to the spiritual side of life.
Develop a community spirit, a common ethos and shared values within the school vision
Consider spiritual and moral issues
Respond to the Worship offered
Pray or have time to think about things that matter to them
Celebrate!
The Statutory Duty of the School
The school provides daily Collective Worship for all registered pupils (unless withdrawn at parental request as allowed by law).
The Headteacher is responsible for arranging the daily Collective Worship in consultation with the Governing body.
Collective Worship must be wholly or mainly of a broadly of a Christian character, and is in accordance with the Derby Diocese guidelines, Section 48 inspection findings and the RE agreed syllabus.
Planning
Collective Worships are planned using a variety of worship materials; Root and Fruits, Simply Collective Worship, Values for Life. One Worship per week will be delivered using ‘Picture News’ and Rights Respecting Schools resources, allowing children the opportunity to consider their global neighbours.
Implementation
Collective Worship is held on a daily basis, lasting for 20 minutes.
The organisation of Collective Worship may change occasionally due to special events but currently is organised in this way:
Monday – Worship using I Sing Pop
Tuesday – Worship based on religion and British Values.
Wednesday – Worship based on religion and British Values.
Thursday – Celebration Collective Worship
Friday – Worship based on global themes and issues
A number of different visitors, including the local incumbents and students from Theological College, may also lead Collective Worship at church or in school.
