Visions and Values

Our visions and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

At Great Hucklow School we aim to create a safe, supportive and stimulating environment in which pupils are enthused about learning.

We are committed to giving all our children access to a broadly based and balanced curriculum that is suited to their individual needs. We always try to take account of their interests, and to ensure that everyone has an equal chance to do their best. We want pupils to be excited by the opportunities available, and seek to foster their natural curiosity, enabling them to become self-motivated, active learners who understand that taking risks is part of the learning process.

We strive to develop our pupils academically, socially and emotionally so that they become resilient and well-rounded individuals who appreciate the world we live in and have the skills to be useful, active, productive and engaged members of society. We encourage our pupils to understand and value the democratic process and offer regular opportunities to practise ‘having their say’.

Great Hucklow School is a highly inclusive community. We foster strong partnerships with parents and work hard to ensure that all members of our school community feel valued. We aim to develop in children a caring, tolerant and respectful attitude to others and a positive appreciation of the diversity within school and in the wider community.

A recent trip to the Polling Station gave the children the opportunity to see democracy in action. The actual room to vote in is quite small so a few of the children went in, asked lots of questions and looked at the ballot box and booths. They then went back and reported their findings to the rest of the class.
